Jack David Rose, 85, of the Gum Neck Community, Columbia, died, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at his residence.

Born in Tyrrell County, October 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Johnnie and Dezzie Armstrong Rose. He was married to Delories Brickhouse Rose who preceded him in death.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator and a farm manager for many years. He was a member of the Gum Neck Church of Christ, where he served as an elder. Jack did not know a stranger, he was a loved man, good father, gifted craftsman who loved children, hunting and fishing.

He was a retired volunteer fire fighter with the Gum Neck Volunteer Fire Department and a former Emergency Medical Technician with the Tyrrell County EMS.

Funeral services will be held at the Gum Neck Church of Christ at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017. Jon Langley and Joey Brickhouse will officiate. A private burial will follow in the family plot at Azalea Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are three sons, Tony G. Rose and wife Beverly of Kentucky, Hank D. Rose and wife Sue, Boyd D. Rose and wife Betty, all of the Gum Neck Community; two daughters, Cindy R. Urick of Creswell, JoAnn R. Brake and husband, Ricky of Kitty Hawk; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Vergie Bateman of Florida and Annie Lee Brickhouse of the Gum Neck Community.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Gum Neck Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Gum Neck Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 1615 South Gum Neck Road, Columbia, NC 27925.
