Obituary

Robert Earls, 68 Manteo, NC

Robert L. Earls, Loving dad, brother, papa, uncle, "pop" and friend to all of humanity passed away at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC on May 2, 2017 with his adoring family by his side.

He was born on July 11, 1948 in Portland, ME, the only son of the late Leo Earls and the late Mary Earls Sprouse.

Bob, "Rob," attended schools in Portland, ME. Upon finishing school, he enlisted and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Electrician's Union of Manteo, NC.

He is profoundly missed by his cherished daughter, Rhonda Earls Wheeler and her husband, Michael Wheeler of Hyde County, NC, his devoted sisters, Joyce Riley and Deanna Earls of Portland, ME, Catherine Earls Aubrey of Charlottesville, VA and Terry Maietta and her husband Peter of Portland, ME and Terry Sprouse Hale of Vinton, VA
His beloved grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Hannah, Zachery and Andrew Wheeler of Hyde County, NC. His nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly, Laurie Daily and her husband Dan of SD, Lisa Beckwith and her husband Brian of TN, Michael LaRhette and his wife Jen of MA, Justin Riley and his wife Jen of Portland, ME, Devin Earls and his wife Suzanne of VA , Lucas Cyrus of MD, Mechelle Connolly and husband Bob of Portland, ME and Katelyn Maietta of Cumberland, ME, Christina Roberts of VA, Laura Hale of VA. Lana Hale and Logan Hale of VA. He is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews whom he adored and they adored him, as well.

He will always be remembered for his compassion and love for his fellow man. Rob never knew a stranger, he had an immense love of family and was always ready to lend a helping hand and provide shelter to anyone in need. He always had an "open door policy," - what was his was yours.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 21, 2017 at the Outer Banks Fishing Pier. You are welcome to bring with you a fishing pole and cast a line at the end of the service, if you would like.

A special memorial service with full military honors will be held in Maine in July, the date and time to be announced at a later date.
